The Pool House was a custom in all aspects of the word. The thing that makes it so unique is that it doubles as an art/pottery studio. This studio included 2 brand new kilns, which required special ventilation and installation. The interior and exterior accents are Tongue and Groove, while the exterior has standing seam metal roofing, and corrugated metal siding, to create an industrial-craftsman hybrid look. In addition to the metal and T&G, this pool house has a lot of windows, giving it excellent views and lighting from the back yard. This ultimately ended up making it an awesome place to tuck into if you just want some sun and quiet. The exterior also has an outdoor kitchen area, detailed by that Tongue and Groove to make it truly pop.
Above the back patio is a perfect example of how much a deck can change the look of a home and yard space. This deck was built using Madeira Red Composite from Trex. It was also constructed using a membrane collection system, to catch rainfall and drain it through hidden gutters trimmed into the deck. This system is called a dry deck, and installing one ensures that you have a cover for the space below the deck, preventing any rain or water from leaking underneath. Another way we hid the system, was by using T&G below the deck. This T&G was lightly stained, to create a nice contrast with the posts. Using the Japanese wood-burning technique of Yakisugi, we were able to burn and stain the deck posts, which created a beautiful tiger-esque pattern and color. This makes the wood more resistant to rot, pests, and fire. Little details like this are why we love being crafstmen, being hands-on, and using creativity to enhance the homes people already know and love.
