Abelard St Custom Deck and Patio Cover
From the first moment we discussed this project with the homeowner, we knew it was going to be something special, and truly one of a kind. Read More
To start, we had to tear down the existing deck and staircase (which is pretty standard) so we had room to fabricate the new structure. Along with the demo and disposal, this project also involved replacing all of the siding and trim on the 2nd floor, as well as replacing all the 2nd story windows and doors on the backside of the home. The old windows and doors were replaced with new, customized windows and doors. On top of that, we modified and replaced the existing framing, to properly position the new set of custom French Doors while maintaining the structural integrity of the home. Once we had the siding, trim, and doors/windows completed, it was time to move on to the main event: A 466 SF Deck, with rough sewn, privately milled Western Red Cedar, covered by a 288 SF Tongue & Groove Gable cover.
The Deck was constructed using true net nominations of lumber, to have a thick and hearty appearance, while also providing superior durability for years to come. As for the Patio Cover, we poured footings of up to 55 Cubic Feet, whereas typical footings are around 4 cubic feet. We poured these massive, engineered footings to ensure that the cover remains stationary, to resist both erosion and lateral forces, like wind or seismic shifts. Once the footings were in, it was time to construct this beautiful behemoth. This cover is loaded with custom options, starting at the bottom with stone veneer on each post base, tapered posts to the top, embedded LED lights on the perimeter beams, heaters, and new lighting, this patio cover pretty much has it all. To accentuate the lines and flow of the cover, the beams and posts were all painted white to match the trim on the existing home, as well as the newly installed custom windows and doors.
At the end of it all, we built something spectacular that made everyone proud, most importantly, the homeowner.
