Vaughn St Deck

This 2-story deck was not only a difficult undertaking as is, but it was also in a very difficult spot to build. Read More

Initially, we had to build a staircase down the hill in order to safely transport materials and tools to the construction area. Just below the house was a drop-off going straight down to the road below the hill the house sat on, giving little room for error. Fortunately, any tools or materials we couldn’t carry down by hand, were hauled for us by crane to maximize efficiency in this tough location.

This project required a lot of lateral and vertical stability, as well as some serious footings that went 5′ deep to ensure that any bit of erosion wouldn’t affect the stability of the deck. We utilized a line pump to pour the footings, rather than hauling a bunch of mix down by hand. Once the footings were cured, it was time to start going vertical on the framing. With the proper PPE, we worked our way up to the existing deck, to use it as a platform to build the upper level of this 2 level deck above. After building out the upper deck, we slowly removed the old deck, allowing ourselves room to build the lower level deck. Once both decks were built, we installed the railing for safety, and shortly after we installed the staircase. After the staircase was in place, we installed the remaining railing and buttoned up anything else that needed attention.

This deck turned out to be a beautiful outdoor space, allowing the homeowners to get the most out of their home’s wonderful location. This project was not only unique, but it was also very challenging, and it truly brought out the best skills in our crew.
